My late mother took this picture. In this photo are her co-administrators, during their administrative visit to Korea last May 2008. I love those little yellow flowers. Yellow is my favorite color that is why anything with yellow allures me!

Scenic Sunday-Beautiful Creation
Splendid creation signifies a wonderful Creator who created all things. I saw different wonderful scenery. It make me owe in wonder -God has created everything for His glory.
This is one of my favorite scene, the falls of Tago Surigao del Norte. The water runs through this rock. It is very cool. My kids love to visit their Tatay Nilo and Nanay Fel so they could enjoy the fresh water coming from this water falls. It's nature bounty. It is surrounded by green bushes and tall bamboos. The hands of God landscape this.

Revisiting “Lambagohan” -CDO’s Kalambagohan became Cagayan de Oro
waI am not a pure Cagayanon. My family just moved here last 1990, when my mother was promoted as Educational Supervisor of Department of Education Culture and Sports in Region X. Butuan then was still part of this region so when my mom got her promotion we moved to this place.
When I was still a college student, during the fiesta celebration I never heard that it was called Cagayan Festival but Lambaguhan Festival. That was the beginning of my searching.Let me share to you what I learned from Cagayan de Oro history. It would be timely since this coming August 28,2010 is another year of CDO's festival.
I wonder how the Cagayan de Oro got its name and how lambago is connected with the Cagayan de Oro Festival? So I researched and I found the answers to my queries.
Long before Cagayan de Oro got its name, the early settlers of this city called the settlement Kalambagohan. They also named the river Kalambagohan. Kalambagohan is a vernaculars word that refers to a place by the river where lush lambago trees used to grow abundantly. Lambago scientifically known as hibiscus tiliaceus, a member of the Malvacea tree family that only thrives in low altitude areas like seashores, riverbanks and other areas reached by tidal streams. Elsewhere, lambago is commonly known as molabago.
The memories of the City riverine life and the verdant riverbanks of the old Cagayan de Oro River still glow even in the aging eyes of Sulpicia Echem Ubay- ubay, an 82 - year old native of Juliao – juliao, the old name of barangay Consolacion. Nanay Sulpicia recounted how in those days, Cagayan de Oro river used to be a great source of fun for children and adults alike.
As a child, Nanay Sulpicia recalled that the thick branches of the lambago trees living the the river bank served as their diving board as their would swim in the crystal clear waters of the Cagayan de Oro River. When asked to describe how clear the river was , Nanay Sulpicia matter-of-factly said that aneedle dropped into the riverbed could be easily found . The river was also the source of drinking water among riverside residents of the city in those days. Nanay Sulpicia also recalled how women in her times would pound lambago leaves and flowers and weed the juice as shampoo, which would leave their hair soft and lustrous.
Hermogenes “Dodoy “ Circulao , 71 years old and one of the early settlers of Isla de Oro , a sandbar formed from silt of the Cagayan de Oro River , cannot help but also recall how lush and thick the lambago tree were along the river bank . To him, the lambago tree does not only serve asan ideal shed for freshwater creatures, it is also a trusted herbal medicine among local folks, for common health problems like stomach pain, arthritis, muscle pain, and sprain.
At present various river activities have already flourished at the Cagayan de Oro River. Among them are the two river cruise and floating restaurants, a river taxi and adventure sports like white water rafting, river tubing and kayaking. A local entrepreneur also put up a riverside picnic area in Taguanao. All these are changing the riverscape of the Cagayan de Oro river and swing from the sturdy branches of lambago trees like Nanay Sulpicia and her friends use to do in Kalamabagohan. #2 Yummy Sunday- Chicken Pork Kare-kare (Stew)
Sada..... the finished product...... Wanna Try? |
Every mom should be adventurous and experimental in serving food to our kids. I've always do it especially to my school children who are very choosy in the food they eat. If we do not discover new ways of cooking they will end up liking food that are junk and not nutritious.
Chicken Pork Kare-Kare is one of my kids favorite experimentation of cookin. They learned to eat vegetable because of the sauce that is soaked in the vegetable. The traditional menu for this is Beef knuckles, and ox tail. But this is costly so I experimented using chicken and pork. My children love this. Your children might also want to taste your experiment!

It is Good to Give Thanks To the Lord
I am not exempted. I myself sometimes neglect to do this basic yet important thing. Sometimes, I am concerned right away of preparing food for breakfast, waking up the school children, doing household chores. And all of these drain me at the end of the day.
But thanks be to God that he allowed me to realize. He reminded of this passage Psalm 92:1 A Psalm, a Song for the Sabbath day. It is good to give thanks to the LORD, And to sing praises to Thy name, O Most High. I should be thankful to God who give me strength to perform my task as a wife as a mother and as His servant.
I should not forget being grateful in everything the Lord has done. Just like I do not forget to brush my teeth, to take a bath and eat my meals. No wonder, why Paul reminded the Corinthian believers in 1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give thanks to Him and acknowledge Him as the source of everything glorifies Him.
My family is one of the wonderful gift I must Thank God for! |

Looking Back- Then Sing my Soul Saturday
One year had passed since my mother went home with the Lord. The pains of losing her is still fresh. Although I am confident that her situation there is better than our's in this world. I can't help myself but cry. I really missed her.
Looking back those memories I had with her is my way of comforting myself. Especially the time when we both sing the song..."Who am I Casting Crowns". I believed she really liked and understood the message of the song, pretty well. That even she is already bed-ridden she would tell me to play the song or we'll sing the song together. During the time that her speech had declined. She just hummed the tune. She was comforted by the message I knew. The part there that says "Not because of what I've done but because of what you've done, not because of who I am but because of who you Are".was her favorite part. Indeed God chose us for Himself not because we are somebody or we have accomplished something. He chose us to show forth His grace for His glory not for us to boast.
This was the great realization I've learned in my mother's situation. All things will really pass away, like her intellectual capacity, her strength, her wit, her vigor everything that man look as physical treasures was gone. I witnessed it.The only thing was left was God's that gave her the assurance. " I will never leave you nor forsake you. I will be with you until the ends of the earth." God's promises He will keep as he said in Jeremiah 1:12 , "You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it.

Pure Vegan Delight
In tribute to the first year death anniversary of my mother whose memories I will ever cherish. I simply prepared her favorite salad this morning. These are pure fresh vegetables: cucumber, yacoon (sweet yam), lettuce, carrots and pineapple. The dressing is also pure healthy braggs aminos sauce and apple cider blended with bits of onion and tomato.
If you want to be healthy and physically fit try this. If you are also aiming to trim down without going hungry this is best!

Laundries Drained Me
These are 30% of the clothes I washed with my hands. |
Whew! I was up hand washing dirty clothes for almost five hours. It made my back painful. This is one of the toughest job every mother is facing. If I can only get rid of this chores. But....
Stephany usually do the laundry every Saturday because I make it sure that I washed the 2 kids, mine and my hubby's clothes everyday.
But still the dirty clothes every Saturday is like mountain because my younger brother brought home his one week's dirty clothes from his dormitory. Plus we change our bedsheets pillow cases and towels during this day.
Stephany informed me that she had to wash clothes on Friday because their Prelim Examination was moved to Saturday. I want to make protest Jonathan's clothes are the major laundry on Saturday, it means there is no other person who can wash it but me. Another is, She will use washing machine, we only use it once a week. So I'll end up washing with my bare hands. I'm afraid that if we break the routine..(use Washing machine once a week) our electric bill would soar high. It would mean a strain to our monthly budget.
I really have to do the hand washing! I am tempted to use the washing machine but the electric bill!? If only my hubby could afford to provide an energy saving device connected to our electrical meter I would not be hesitant to use any electrical device that would make my job as a mother lighter and easier.
Some of the clothes I hand washed still in the laundry line not yet fully dry. |

Thanking God
In everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus ( I Thessalonian 5:18).
It is is really difficult to do this especially when we are confronted with many pressures and trials in life. Just 3 day ago my daughter Juwella has a fever. I was beginning to worry about things which do not exist yet. The "what if"....What if Juwella has dengue- it is on it's season in the Philippines during rainy days. What if she has viral infection and it will get worst? The very root cause of these worries is the financial aspect and maybe lack of faith.
Many Filipinos don't have savings or any budget for health aspects. Going to the hospital for check up is not a habit. We went to see doctors when health problem gets worst. It is our least priority. But when sickness comes at the back of my mind is the thought of neglecting to have a "Pre-med plan" for myself and my children. I want to blame my self for this but what can I do when my budget is just enough for our basic needs.
Now, I'm in this reality who can help but my faith. My faith that God is our healer. He will heal my daughter from her sickness. God knows our capacity. He knows our limitations. He allows thing to happen for a purpose that we might know Him more and grow in our faith.
Though Juwella is not completely healed right now. I trust God that He will do it. He will even enable my family to get a medical plan for my us so we could be prepared. He allowed me to see this so I will know the need and has to consider it.
" Thank you Lord for letting me see things as You see it. Thank you for giving me faith to believe. Thank you for letting me experience trials so I can see You working in my life. Thank You for all these experiences. Thank you for the realization that you allowed things for your greater glory! Amen!"
